Skyline @ Hillcrest on Saturday

Skyline will face off against Hillcrest on Saturday, January 3rd. JV game time is 6 p.m. followed by varsity at 7:30 p.m. at Hillcrest.

Skyline won their games on Monday against Clark County (Varsity) and Rigby's Juniors in the junior tournament at Idaho Falls High School.

Holiday Basketball Tournament

Hello Everyone!

We want to let you know about Idaho Premier Basketball's upcoming basketball tournament to benefit the Jimmy V Foundation. The tournament will be held in Idaho Falls on Monday, December 29 and Tuesday, December 30.

In addition to participating teams from Idaho, this tournament regulary attracts teams from Wyoming, Utah, Montana, and Nevada. There are boys' divisions for grades 4th through 9th and girls' divisions for grades 5th through 9th. The registration deadline is December 21. Space is limited and is nearing capacity - so register now.

Proceeds from this tournament are donated to the Jimmy V Foundation for Cancer Research. The V Foundation is a charitable organization dedicated to saving lives by helping to find a cure for cancer. The V Foundation was created in honor of the late North Carolina State men's basketball coach Jimmy Valvano. "Cancer can take away all my physical abilities. It cannot touch my mind, it cannot touch my heart and it cannot touch my soul. And those three things are going to carry on forever. Don't give up, don't ever give up......"

Skyline Loses to Rigby in OT

Poor freethrow shooting resulted in a 44-37 overtime loss to Rigby Thursday night in Skyline's home opener. The team went to the old gym and had an intense practice following the game, and committed to shoot 200 freethrows and keep track of their makes and misses before practice on Friday.

7th Grade Sports in District 91, 9th Grade Sports at the High School

It's official!

Last night the District 91 school board approved the recommendation that all 9th grade athletic programs move to the high schools beginning with the 2009-10 school year. Gymnastics will continue to be provided at the junior high schools for grades 7-9. Cheerleading for 9th grade students will also move to the high school and there will be separate 7th and 8th grade squads.

This is great news for Skyline Basketball!

Skyline Defeats Bonneville

The Grizz came out on top tonight against Bonneville after two road losses in Utah to Clearfield and Syracuse last week. Robert Edwards led the way with 17 points. The junior varsity team improved to 3-0, winning a close game against Bonneville after a dominating victory over Syracuse.

Congratulations to varsity assistant coach Dave Bell who was back in blue tonight after his wedding to Skyline Girls JV Coach Gretchen Moser.

Boys Basketball Tryouts

Friday, November 14th marks the first day of the high school basketball season for boys in Idaho. The Skyline players have been working hard, and over 40 kids have been coming to open gym since the football season ended. There will be a great deal of competition for the spots on the JV and Varsity teams for Skyline, which will make for some very difficult decisions by the coaching staff. Ty Shippen, head varsity coach, is joined by Travis Jenkins, head JV coach, and assistants Clint Cornish, Emmett Shippen, and Dave Bell.

Tryouts will consist of three practices: Friday after school, Saturday at 9 a.m., and Saturday at 1 p.m. Team rosters will be posted on Monday. Questions? Email coachshippen@idahohoops.net

Hoops Clinics at Apple Athletic Club

First Session of Hoop Clinics

Coach Ehardt, a former Division I Women’s Basketball Coach for 15 years, will again be holding her hoops clinics for this year. The 10-week session will begin October 9th and run through December 18th. These popular clinics are being held on Thursday’s with various sessions for most ages beginning at 3:30 and running until 6:00pm. As usual, our space is limited, so the sooner you can sign up, the better.

Our clinics continue to get better as we add phenomenal coaches to the staff. Included are former division I players Kaly Shippen, wife of Skyline Boys Coach Ty Shippen, Lorie Baldwin, wife of Hillcrest coach Donny Baldwin, and Shelby Whiting. Charity Basketball Clinics for JDRF on October 4th at Skyline H.S.

Charity basketball clinics will be held at Skyline High School on Saturday, October 4th to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The sessions will be held from 8:30 to 9:30 for grades K-2, from 12:30 to 1:30 for grades 3-5, and from 4:30 to 5:30 for grades 6-8.

Participants will learn dribbling and shooting drills they can use to improve their skills from Kaly Shippen and local high school players. Kaly played college basketball and enjoys teaching the fundamentals of the game to young players.

The cost is just $5 in advance, or $10 at the door. Participants may register online through the JDRF web site by clicking here. Please include the name, grade, and session of the clinic participant in the message area at the bottom of the payment form.

The charity clinics are being sponsored by Skyline High School Basketball, NAI Commerce One, and Snake River Landing. All proceeds will go to JDRF.

Cost $40

Cubs Camp

May 30th
9 - 11 a.m. for K-2nd Grade
Cost: $10

Giving Back...Players Put on Free Clinic at Apple Athletic Club





The Skyline boys basketball team hosted a free clinic over Christmas break for participants in Apple Athletic Club's 1st, 2nd, & 3rd grade basketball league .


Skyline varsity and junior varsity basketball players referee the league games, with a focus on helping the kids have fun and understand the rules.
